Kyiv
- St. Barbara hospice (Kyiv). Social, medical and spiritual help to the dying and ill
children and to their families. The help is available about 25 families during the year.
The manager – protodeacon Sergiy Kosovsky.
- Shelter for the mentally ill homeless people in St.Cyril’s parish (since 2000). In the
restored ruins of the clinic building the clinic care and spiritual support has been
organized by the parish. This help is daily available to 20-40 people.
- Charitable kitchen (since 2001) in the restored ruins of clinic provides hot lunches and
suppers for more than 50 people daily with the help of sisterhood of charity.
- Agricultural project (since 2001). Food production has been organized to maintain the
charitable kitchen. 3 houses with the allotment has been bought nearby Kyiv (80 km) and 50
hectares were taken in rent in order to plaint the vegetables, cultures. Manager – tutor
of the parish – archpriest Theodor Sheremeta.
- Charitable kitchen of St. Olga community (since 2003). Daily about 40 old people in need
of Kharkiv district of Kyiv here have a hot lunches. These poor people are from the
special list of the state administration.
- Center for spiritual and social help to HIV-infected and to their families by the
Orthodox parish of 40-th Sevastia martyrs in Kyivan local clinic hospital nr.5. Here are:
- Sisterhood on the HIV-infected care;
- Work with the persons, who have an alcoholic dependence;
- Phone-line of trust;
- Agricultural allotment for the rehabilitation of the drug-addicted persons.

- Hemosortbion (blood-cleaning) center in the Military hospital of the Security
Inteligence Service of Ukraine (Kyiv). In the rails of the project the Medical Department
of the Security Service of Ukraine has received an equipment for the blood-cleaning
operations. This help is available to veterans of the Great World Wars, veterans of the
Labor, to the persons, affected by the Chornobyl nuclear explosion, the disabled and other
those, who are in need.
- The reanimation room in the Strazhesko Cardiological (Heart-cure) center has been
equipped with the help of the help of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
Kyivan diocese:
- Kitchen for the blind and sewing workshop in Obukhiv;
- Home of Mersy for 30 persons in the St. Iuliania Olshanska sisterhood in Mala Olshanka
village (Stepok) of Obukhiv area;
- Medical first-help for Stepok village;
- Annual summer youth camps. Children of 9-16 years old (to 50 persons in one time) could
live in camp during 15 days under the spiritual guidance of the archpriest of Mykhail
Makoviy, the tutor of Holy Dormition temple of Obukhiv deanery. The manager of all these
project – Galyna Makoviy.
- Spiritual care to the State Jails of the region. The tutor of Holy Dormition Orthodox
community – Fr. Mykolay Mohylnyj is a dean-chaplain of all the churches on the jails
does the spiritual care over the people in these jails. He is a tutor of the church in
Kotsubynske village and in the jail of the strict rite (BVK 85) in Bucha village
- Humanitarian help has been distributing by our Department to the needy of the different
parishes and social organizations as well.
Cherkaska diocese
Agricultural project in St. Mykhail parish of Lysenko deanery of Cherkasy region
provides a food production for the charitable kitchen, which feeds 50 people.
Chernivtsi diocese
Orphanage has been opened owing the charitable work of believers and by the blessing of
His Eminence Metropolitan Onufriy of Chernivtsi and Bukovyna. The help is available to
more than 60 children daily.
Crimea diocese
Church sanatorium in Alupka near the St. Alexander Nevsky parish has been opened.
Administration of AR Crimea gave back to the Church this former sanatorium, in which the
climate residence of Emperor Alexander III was located before the 1917 A.D. Clergymen and
scholars of the spiritual institutions of Russian Empire used to use this sanatorium as
health-restoring place. Owing to the church-funds and WCC-aid as well the building of
sanatorium was restored and now it is used for the children from Ukraine, Russian
Federation and other countries of CIS (Commonwealth Independent States). Some of the large
groups of kids after Chornobyl catastrophe has took a therapeutic courses here as well.
Konotop and Gluhiv diocese
- Sisterhood of mercy in the parish of the Christ Nativity of Shostka provides a home care
work to the needy (hard illnesses) in the homes of the old people. Manager of the project
– deacon Vasyliy Kovalchuk.
- Charitable society in the name of St. Sergiy Radonezhsky in Holy Ascension cathedral
church of Konotop provides a social and spiritual aid to the prisoners in the different
jails of Sumy and Lugansk regions and to the people in the hard illnesses (heart, mentally
ill persons etc.) of Konotop, Shostka, Voronezh, Suzemka (RF). The manager – deacon
Vsyliy Kovalchuk.
Kryvoriz’ka diocese
- Society of the sisters of the mercy of St. Elizabeth in the church of Holy Theotokos of
Kryvyj Rih has started a spiritual and medical care to the elders of geriatric department
of 3-d hospital. About 20 persons could attain this help.
- Organization “The way of the Orthodox” in the Iversky church of Krynyj Rih organized
a care for the ill people of the surgery department of 1-st local hospital.
- Diocese provides a spiritual support for the prisoners of 9 jails of the region.
L’viv diocese
- St. Barbara sisterhood provides spiritual help to the mentally ill people of the
regional psychiatric hospital, hot lunches to 80 people of several departments of this
hospital and to 40-50 homeless poor people as well.
- Help to the orphans (118 persons) has been organized by St. Peter and Paul brotherhood.
- Social help to poor people by the food and medicine St. Peter and Paul brotherhood
organizes more than 5 years.
Lugansk diocese
St.Elizabeth sisterhood of Alchevsk provides a home care service for the hard ill
people, assists with the spiritual and social support to the people with cancer, to the
families with many children and to orphans as well. Sisterhood asks to help them with the
new kitchen building reconstruction and with the psychological-rehabilitation center for
the drug-addicts and alcoholics as well.
Mukacheve diocese
St. Stefan parish in Minay village (nearby Uzhgorod) provides a home care for the
completely ill (and dying) people. The building with 3 floors has been build for the
future hospice, which will provide a complex of spiritual and social-medical assistance
for these patients from the Transcarpathians. Manager – honored doctor of Ukraine –
archpriest Stepan Bilyak.
Odeska diocese
Elder-shelter in St.Archangel Mychail nunnery hosts about 30-40 poor old men and women.
Orphanage in the church of the Holy Theotokos icon “The joy of all the crying”.
Rhabiltation of the drug-addicts in Ilichivsk of Odesa region.
Zaporiz’ka diocese
Orphanage for 25 kids has been organized in the former building of the diocese. Now 8
orphans (in the age of 3 – 12 years old) live here.
